Sherry Coutu CBE
Sherry Coutu will be awarded LLD on Wednesday 12 June 2024 during the morning graduation ceremony.
Sherry Coutu CBE graduated from the University of British Columbia with a first-class honours BA. She was awarded an MSc in Economics with distinction in 1986 from the London School of Economics and received her MBA from Harvard Business School in 1993.

Sherry is a pioneering entrepreneur with expertise in the digital sector. She has established and sold several successful businesses and is the recipient of numerous awards, including the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Lifetime Achievement award and Veuve Cliquot’s Business Woman of the year award. She serves on several boards, including the Harvard Business School European Advisory Council.
Sherry has a strong commitment to philanthropy, with a focus on education and supporting entrepreneurs. She founded the ScaleUp Institute to help businesses grow, and serves as founding Director of the Raspberry Pi Company, which promotes computing education. She also supports various charities, including Founders4Schools and Digital Boost, which provide mentorship to teachers and small business leaders.
Sherry’s professional highlights include investments in more than 70 startup companies, such as LinkedIn and Zoopla, and co-founding the Prince’s Trust Technology Leadership Group, which supports young entrepreneurs. Her passion for technology and education has led her to become a prominent public speaker and advocate for greater diversity in the tech industry.
Sherry’s life-long mission is to promote digital inclusion and empower people through technology and education. As the first in her family to go to university, she continues to invest in, mentor and chair various businesses, support charitable causes, and champion the importance of education in driving social mobility and innovation.
