Professor Geoffrey Grimmett is a distinguished mathematician whose work has made major contributions to probability theory and statistical mechanics, particularly in the study of random processes and disordered systems.

Professor Grimmett was educated at the University of Oxford and has held senior academic positions at the University of Cambridge, where he was Professor of Mathematical Statistics and Master of Downing College.

He is internationally recognised for his research in probability theory, including percolation theory, random-cluster models and the study of large systems of randomly interacting objects. His work has had a significant impact on the mathematical understanding of disordered physical systems and complex stochastic processes.

He is the author of several influential books and research papers on probability, random processes and spatial disorder, which are widely cited in the field.

Professor Grimmett was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 2014 in recognition of his outstanding contribution to mathematics.
